Dental Woes

The dentist... Okay how many of you truly screamed in fear when you read those two little words? I know you did, you can be honest with me. Well, the dentist is not the person at the top of my invite list to any function. He's not even on my invite list. So guess who had a little party today at the dentist's office?

True it was a freak-out party and I was the only partier, but he was there nonetheless. I've had many things done to my teeth before now and this is before I've even had braces or wisdom teeth yanked out or any other hideous tormenting things they enjoy doing. I truly don't mind dentists as individual people (not that I've ever met one out of the office), but as soon as the mask goes up over his nose, I start shaking.

Okay the shaking is a direct result of the epinephrine they shoot into you, but still... bear with me here. The gag reflex, the sounds of Nascar eminating from within my mouth (vroom vroom-- I could just hear the pit crew exchanging old tires for new this morning), the smells and tastes of whatever metal they use to "fix" your teeth... the list goes on.

I went back to work today after my "party" and began singing a timeless song, "Woe is me..." Fortunately, nobody could hear my unfortunate singing.

Poor widdle teefies...

I am awful about writing thank you notes. It's a curse, really. I have the greatest intentions, the best of anybody I know and still they never get written. Well okay, once in a while I do get one written. I apologize if I have ever needed to thank you in writing and it wasn't done. Husband used to try to help me not say thank you so much. Literally, I tend to say it many times over in a row because I am so afraid I'll forget to say what's on my heart- my true appreciation of you and your thoughtfulness.

My wedding thank you notes were never completed either. Oh sure, a few of you got them, but then we ran out of stamps. Some thank you notes were written and never mailed-- it's pretty sad, but we probably still have them. To you, I most heartfeltly (is that a word?) apologize. Thank you. One day I will get them written. It's a promise.

To those of you who celebrated my birthday with your thoughtfulness and generosity, I thank you. Give me a decade or two and you will probably receive your thank you note...

What is normal?

Life is slowly getting back to normal. This is a very good thing for anyone that knows me. August (and the end of July) has been a very stressful month for my family. We've had missions trips, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, out of town family visiting, churchwide events, 300 people parties, new jobs, old jobs, organ surgeries, mono, and now strep, plus your every day horrible cold.

Yes I tell you, it's been crazy! I am extremely glad that the crazy busy part of the year is over. I know I know, I say that and you're thinking, "um Sus? You do know we're approaching the Christmas season don't you?" Yes I am aware of that and while yes, it can be stressful, I can't wait! Woohoo! I've been sitting here in my office all day freezing to death with my goose bumps, but you know all I can think? "Yay! It's almost time for sweatshirts and bundling up!" I asked a coworker friend today if she'll play in the snow with me this winter if it snows. She kind of looked at me funny, but I am happy because she said she would. Yay for Sarah!

Time to take a little breather...

Daddy Thoughts

My dad had an emergency operation Thursday night. It was a routine operation and of course he's now home and well on his way to recovery, but it was a very weird situation to me. Dad being in the hospital was bizarre because in all the time I've been a part of this family in some form or fashion, he's never been truly unwell. Mom and Dad said it's the third time he's ever been in a hospital! I thought that was crazy since everyone I know comes from a family with lots of health problems.

I love Dad very much; he's the only Dad I've ever truly known (he's really my dad-in-law, or as my mom-in-law puts it, "dad-in-love"). He took me in like one of his own kids before I officially was and that meant a lot to me back then. He cares for me just like one of his other kids. Hmm, that reminds me of an even cooler Daddy I know. It made me feel better during Dad's surgery to know that he was being cared for by his Daddy (GOD). Yes we were concerned about Dad, but God had it all under control the whole time. What a great feeling!

Because we all knew Dad would be alright, we were able to enjoy his drugged state of loopiness even more! He was quite hilarious with certain things he said. One of his employees got a raise out of him and he wanted gummy worms in his mouth and he was trying to rearrange a churchwide picnic and his son's life! What a character, but we all love him because he's Dad.

A Healthy Dose of Sugar does not keep the Dentist away!

I had to go to the dentist today. The problem is that my teeth are so sensitive that he couldn't pinpoint the problem, because it felt like the problem was all over! Go figure. He did tell me to go shopping for a temporary solution to my problem-- how odd to have a licensed doctor send me shopping. You can imagine how that went over with my husband can't you? Heehee! "The doctor told me to go shopping, Baby! I just have to go!" Haha!

In other world news tonight, my computer at work has finally been raised from the dead! I dubbed it "Lazarus" today at work. Husband spent FIVE hours last night working on that stupid computer, but Husband won. Yay for Husband!

My husband is the very best husband ever, in case you don't know him and were wondering how truly amazing he is. There is plenty of time on other days for specific examples, but I will just let it summarize today's blog by saying he truly is God's gift to me and I am grateful everyday for him. I love you Husband!

Home Sweet Home

We're home! Yippee!

I cannot sit still for long periods of time and I made it home! We had such a long drive from where we were over the weekend that I was really worried that I would lose my mind on the way home. To keep this from happening, I did end up making a photojournalistic documentary of just about every daggone exit between where we were and home. Too bad the camera's battery went dead five minutes before we got home! Oh well, we're home and back to the grind now...

This picture is of course not an exit sign, but it is one of the flowers from the wedding we went to while out of town. I thought the picture itself came out beautifully and truly reflects God's creativity and His beauty.

Those Lazy Days of Summer

Well, I can honestly say that yesterday was my favorite day of the week (and yes, that is mostly due to it being my birthday). I had such a great time and I got to see so many of my favorite people! Yay!

To update you on the work status, my computer is still at war with me (The peace treaty it and I had going ended Monday morning.). I feel very unproductive for this week even though I'm ahead in hours, but that's okay because by Tuesday I am hoping and praying that my computer is defeated soundly (and gets a spankin to go with it!).

I shall return from out of town victorious, having conquered my computer! Woohoo! In the meantime, I know I said I will be packing and getting ready to go out of town for tomorrow, however, I want to take a nap. I don't normally do this, but today I feel it is a well deserved naptime. I wish I'd not taken naptime for granted in Kindergarten, but alas, I did. So today at least, I will revisit Kindergarten and not get any work done on my to do list, but just relax and enjoy my afternoon off. Zzzzzzz.....

Happy Birthday to me!

Happy Birthday to me! Happy Birthday to me!
Happy Birthday dear Susie! Happy Birthday to me!

I had such a great birthday! Friends and family, phone calls and lots of love poured out in great big heaps on top of me. Husband surprised me with a miniparty after dinner and it was perfect. Everybody I would've wanted to be there was there, and we all laughed a lot.

The cake was very yummy by the way!

Satan really tried to do a number on me today as my computer at work is even more beyond broken than anyone realized. I don't feel I've gotten any work done at all this week, but my immediate supervisor has been very supportive. She prayed and prayed and prayed for me today, and I can tell God is listening. He listens to you too in case you were wondering. What a wonderful confirmation of His love for me-- a great birthday party!

Tomorrow I'll be packing us as we travel out of town for oldest brother's wedding. I had hoped to have lost weight by now but as I am not, I am praying that Jesus would help my attitude not suffer. We plan to have lots of fun gettin' this boy married! What a happy happy occasion!

A Second Bone of Contention

Disclaimer: Another complaint follows.

It's been such a crazy day; I can tell Satan's really truly out to steal, kill and destroy, like the Bible says.

My computer broke this morning-- we think the video card died. This is so frustrating for me because I can't do any of my work without my computer. Such a frustration, let me tell ya. Because we're leaving for my brother in law's wedding Thursday, that means I have to get four days' worth of work into two and a half days. I came in this morning all set to just hit it hard and get soooo much work done! I can't tell you how irritated I was this morning, but I tried to pray about it and I believe Husband was praying too because I am trying to look at it from the standpoint of Spiritual Warfare.

Satan's truly out to get each of us and he'll win the battle if we let him. However, there's no way he's gonna win the war since he's already been defeated. Just a note of encouragement if you have been frustrated today too.

A Bone of Contention

Disclaimer: A complaint follows.

I have had to participate this weekend in one of the most evil errands ever- Dress Shopping! Now any woman out there will know about this, and any sweet hubbys that go with their wives know about this as well. Dress shopping is the most awful errand there is, even worse than waiting and waiting for an oil change (We also did that this weekend.). No dress is cute enough, and if by some miracle, you do find a cute dress, it will of course not be cute on you. Evil incarnate! My husband always thought I was exaggerating until one day while we were dating, he went with me... Suffice it to say, he now completely agrees with me! Even worse than just your normal every day dress shopping is the fact that I had to find not one, but two, dresses! Ugh, isn't that just awful?!

Ah well, at least it's over for now.

Fallin' in love with Fall

Every day for about the past two weeks I have made mention of the fact that I absolutely cannot wait for Fall to arrive. The weather around here has dipped into slightly warm with a cool breeze blowing. It's been almost perfect! I hate hot weather with the bees and the mosquitos; I must confess without shame that I hate summer. My favorite time of each year is about to be upon us and I am so excited! Fall brings much cooler temperatures, which allows for more opportunities for snuggling with my hubby. There's nothing more comfy than putting on a slightly-bigger-than-you sweatshirt and a pair of jeans! Fall also gives me the chance to be outside where I can actually enjoy all that God has created.

It also brings the season of the year I love most- preChristmas and then all the way through Christmas. Almost everyone is in a constant state of excitement, leading up to the holidays. I have a true excuse for inviting both sides of our families to get together over lots and lots of traditional comfort foods (Thanksgiving!). Then the real fun begins!

Sigh... I can't wait!

Produce and Ponderances

The Farmers' Market was incredibly fun for me. I had such a blast with Meredith and Little C taking pictures and buying lots of yummy foods. I did get my zucchini for Husband, so that was good-- I felt very productive. I also learned how to fry okra, which Husband also likes and I've never made. I just hope it tastes yummy!

Meredith and I got lots of awesome pictures and this is one of them. I am very excited about this new camera-- it's actually making my pictures look good! I have other great pics too, but this is the one I chose to show. I hope you enjoy it!

I am enjoying the blog so far, so look for tomorrow's excerpt from Life at Pemberley!

There's a first time for everything!

Today I have been inspired by one of my closest friends to create a blog. She has a fabulous website and I have quickly become addicted to viewing it. She is of the belief that everyone should have their own corner of the Internet in which to share. Because of this belief, I have taken the idea and run with it. We shall see how far I run.

In case you are wondering, Pemberley is the name of a residential estate from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Pride and Prejudice is my favorite book of all time. Everyone should read it and if you haven't, don't let me find out!

Tomorrow the friend mentioned here and I will journey to the Farmer's Market and take pictures of the produce. I hope to buy some zucchini for my husband. We have not found any really good zucchini in the last month or so, and I know he will be thrilled if my search is a success! Wish me well!
