Friday Cuteness!

This photo was one the breeder sent to us when we were interested in getting a puppy. Her ad didn't have any photos attached (yet surprisingly, I was still interested! Totally a God thing since I never consider anything without a photo.).

You know you'd take this cutie pie home with you too, wouldn't you? Almost three years old-- time flies. She still seems about eight months old to us! In the photo, she's not even eight weeks old.

We have several friends this week who got new puppies ('tis the season, I suppose), and that of course, got me to reminiscing about Scoutaki Mushroom. I don't know how we entertained ourselves before she came around! She's so hilarious!

February BirchBox Review

This past week I got my second BirchBox package in the mail! It's like Christmas each month, not knowing exactly what's coming, but knowing you'll probably love it all!

This time around, the theme for February was stuff to pamper yourself with, essentially. Didn't really understand how that's different than any of the other monthly deliveries, but let's go with it.

1. Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant: basically a powder you mix with water to form a paste to exfoliate your face with. I loved it! Seems funky at first and it did have a bit of a weird smell, but it's mild and I just went with it. This left my skin feeling sooooo soft!

2. Eye Rock Designer Liner: stick-on eye liner? yes please! I love eye liner but I am horrible at applying it properly. These are basically stickers. The problem is they sent me some really funky ones, so not sure I'll actually use them. I might try the most tame design (of the 4 sent to me) and give the others to a funky, fun teen I know. She'll flip for them for sure!

3. Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint: I prefer tinted moisturizer to foundation, and this one doesn't disappoint! I've been using it all week and I still haven't run out. It's a bit darker than I've been wearing, but it doesn't look strange (at least no one's commented).

4. Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Serum: I don't think this does any better than normal soap/water/cleanser/however you normally get rid of blemishes. And it's sticky and gets on your clothes. Not so cool.

5. Supersmile Powdered Mouthrinse: Say what?! Yes, powdered mouthwash. You put water in the little pouch and swish it around. Haven't tried this yet (seems kinda funky for normal, every day use), but it smells pretty good. They sent me two to try, so I told Hubby he could try it too!

6. BirchBox Digital Download: 6 free songs from an indie band, Green River Ordinance. Haven't done this yet so no clue, but free music's generally free music!

Overall, well done, but not as impressive as the January box. Can't wait to see what March holds! If you're interested in signing up, please use this link. I get points or something for everyone I refer.

Valentine's Recap!

Usually we don't celebrate V-Day, as I like to call it. We feel loved throughout the year and don't really look for specific reasons to celebrate. This year was a bit different, in that with CC's promotion requiring him to be at work more often, and the busyness that is my schedule at work, we just haven't spent much time together recently, which we hate.

So this year, I asked for us to celebrate. No gifts or anything major, but just time together and cards being exchanged.

I can't remember if I mentioned that to celebrate our debt reduction over the past six months, we had planned to go to the Melting Pot for a big fancy fun night out. Well it hadn't happened until the other night, and we just rolled V-Day into it. Let's celebrate three (2 debts paid off + V-Day) reasons instead of just the one!

This past Monday we went to the Melting Pot for dinner, which was amazing! I had to turn off my flash since folks were sitting right behind CC, but hopefully you can at least get a gist of what we ate and how it was and what we looked like and basically, how excited we were.

And as I mentioned, here's us. I am busting with excitement at this point (Can you tell? Sorry again it's so stinkin' grainy and dark.).

We had an absolutely fantastic experience. Our waiter, Terence, was incredibly amazing, the food was divine, and the chocolate was... well, let's put it this way... I'll be eating it daily in Heaven. Yep.

It was also our first time ever eating lobster (because who wants to pay that much for something you're not sure you'll actually like?!). Since it came with the meal, we were thrilled to finally try it. Verdict?! It's expensive so of course we both loved it. Especially drowned in butter. Oh the goodness!

The manager came by while we were eating to welcome us and give me a pink rose. So fun!

On the actual day of love, Tuesday, we made dinner at home (buffalo chicken sandwiches!) and watched tv in our jammies with our favorite frozen yogurt CC got on his way home from work- cake batter flavor! Yummy! I of course had to add chocolate- cherry M&Ms and regular M&Ms. Because that's how I roll. It did turn my ice cream a fun color of pink. The cupcake below was from a coworker. Yummy!

We had a lovely couple of days together, just reconnecting and eating the deliciousness. If it's like this all the time, we'll have to celebrate from now on.

I've Never...

Let's play a game, called I've Never... What have you NEVER done?

I'll start to get the game going.

I've never...

1. had lobster (hoping to change that tonight at dinner!)
2. had crab or caviar or roe anything, for that matter
3. smoked anything
4. gotten drunk
5. done drugs
6. gone blonde
7. gotten pulled by a cop
8. received a speeding ticket (or any ticket)
9. broken up with a boy
10. been dumped by a boy

Your turn! What've you never done?

Things I Used To Hate (Or... I Never In A Million Years Thought I'd Get Sucked In)

CC had a fabulous idea for a list, so here we go...

Things I Hated & Never Thought I'd Like:
  • Facebook/Social Media- I knew it'd suck up all my time and I didn't want that. Hubby got tired of my using his account to spy, err I mean keep up with people, so he signed me up for an account against my wishes. So glad NOW that he did that!
  • Texting- I hate it. I still do. Especially with my friends who ONLY like to text entire long conversations. I am not into that. But a quick convo needing an immediate response? Oh yeah!
  • Coffee- When I worked at Starbucks and got it for free, I hated it. Now that I have to pay tons of $$, me loveeee and I am obsessed. I only like it super sweet and creamy, so it takes a lot to doctor up my actual coffee. The mocha at Starbucks is perfect. I can order it as is, and don't have to do anything to it. Yummy!
  • Being a Girly Girl- My mom's definition of femininity growing up was lots of pink, lots of ruffles, and lots of lace. She would never go out without sleeping in curlers and putting on her make-up. I rebelled against the Pollyanna bows in my hair and now I don't know anything. Playing catch-up and finding my own way is way more difficult sometimes, but I'm loving that I can have my own style without looking quite so flouncy.

So here's what I've been up to in February...

Lots of my bloggie-world friends took photos of certain things each day in January and I wanted to participate, but couldn't figure out where the list was coming from (so they knew what each day required). I found the lists for February and decided I could handle both since it's the shortest commitment of the year.

Here's one I'm doing:

And here's the second one I'm participating with:

It's actually pretty fun since I've been able to remember to do it so far. I really like feeling like I'm participating in some big thing with other people. Pretty cool.

Join us if you want to! You just sign up for an Instagram account (if you don't already have one), and start posting photos! It's awesome!

Making Me A Happy, Happy Girl

I'm really hoping I can make chocolate crack this weekend. Perfect timing with V-Day around the corner, and I think I can get rid of it all at church after I realize how crack-ddictive it is...

I always enjoy the Christmas cups at Starbucks, but a V-Day cup? Awesome!

Terrible Pet Parents, Exhibit A

Last Friday Scout got to go to Doggy DayCamp. We had a coupon for a free day and thought we'd try it out. I felt like a parent dropping their kid off for the first day of kindergarten.

Basically, the premise is that you sign your dog in, they play for 3 hours, get a one-hour rest/lunch break, then play for four more hours straight. Lots of playtime, in theory. Then they come home super happy and exhausted (which, when translated, means obedient and sweet).

Well the first issue for us is that though Scout has been around dogs before (puppy school- TWICE, dog parks, etc.), she's really more of a cat person. Yep, I did just say that. Funny, but very, very true. Scout loves to play with her cat cousins, her boyfriend is a cat, she thinks she's a cat, and on and on it goes...

Secondly, there were WAY too many dogs in the one confined area for Scout to handle. There had to be more than twenty dogs in there at a time. It was nuts. Scout always starts out shy and then once she's comfortable she'll start playing and have a blast.

Well, she could see me through the glass... I had to watch from far down the aisle at PetsMart and then finally Hubby had to walk me out of the store (I was on the phone with him because I couldn't leave her). See that lady in the photo? She stood in front of me so Scout couldn't see me, and she told me play-by-plays of what Scout was doing. SUPER UBER sweet lady who understood me. Can you see poor little baby girl plastered to the glass window avoiding the crazy drama? Yep, that's pretty much what she did ALL DAY LONG. I even have video of her climbing the glass wall begging me to come back for her (Break my heart, why don't ya?).

[Side note: If anyone can tell me how to get iPhone videos to work with Blogger, I'd be eternally grateful. They upload but once they're part of the post, I get error messages and they won't play.]

I even called about noon to see if she had calmed down and was playing yet. Nope, still plastered to the employees or against the wall, taking in the crazy. When I went to pick her up at 4 (seven hours later), ALL the dogs were on one side of the room playing and where was Scout? On the complete opposite side laying down against the wall. Such a diva.

Here she is on the way home from daycamp...

She was super tired but not happy. In fact, just like the cat she thinks she is, when I picked her up (I was so relieved to have her home!) she would not look at me or give kisses and snuggles. She still might be mad at me, but it's hard to say since we weren't home with her much this weekend. Pretty much, we felt like awful pet parents and probably won't do it again, at least not in the same way. I think she'd enjoy daycamp if there weren't so many dogs. I think five or six at the max is more her style. Less doggy drama and all that.

Speaking of the weekend... last night was the Super Bowl! I love this time of year because I get to eat crazy amounts of junk food (or have in the past), pretend I watch sports, and have an excuse to watch lots of tv. By lots of tv, I mean we watch the Puppy Bowl first, and then the Super Bowl.

Scout LOVES the Puppy Bowl! She's seen it every year since she's been born (which means the last three years). She gets all mesmerized and tunes us out (made easier since she was mad at us).

This was Scout watching her Bowl game. As you can see, she would not share the remote. Mama fell asleep but Scout stayed awake. She was not a fan of that Fumbles puppy. She did like the pig cheerleaders though.

Last year during the Super Bowl, CC was flying to Denver for a work trip and missed it all (we were pitiful and stayed home and watched it alone). This year, we got invited to a PARTY! We went until after Madonna's half-time show (which I swore I wouldn't watch as if that would make a difference to Miss M, but I totally watched it after all).

Some of our very dear friends were at the party so pretty much I missed the entire first half because my back was to the tv the entire time. Missed all the commercials and the game. (I like to watch both, if the game is good.) We had SO much fun! CC had been dealing with a horrible migraine all weekend so after Madonna did NOT have a malfunction (yay!), we went home and watched the rest of the game/commercials. Overall, a very fun time.

However, this totally made it even better...

By special request only, do I make Pretzel Crack, as I call it. Unfortunately, it was special requested out the wazoo for the party. In less than two hours, it was gone except for about two pieces I managed to steal away and take home with me. I must say, BEST batch yet! Always before, I cooked the caramel for a longer amount of time, getting it to a more toffee-like consistency. This time, I only let it cook for about seven minutes, which left it more of a buttery caramel taste. SOOOO much better (to me, at least)! Hubby likes toffee but I don't, so I was much happier this time around.

All that to say, please do not special request this anymore. I really can make other things. Healthier, not so addictive crack-like things. This really is bad for my health. Jillian would kill me for eating this. But it's SOOOO very worth the evil she's been putting me through!

A Favor To Ask Of You Lurkers!

I've got a favor to ask and since it's almost the weekend, I figure you might be in a great mood, am I right?

If you've been lurking around here and haven't made yourself known to me yet, PLEASE say hello! I'd love to meet you (if we haven't yet 'met') and get to know you better. Leave a comment, send me an email, follow me, tweet me, facebook me, stalk me, send me presents and jewels, whatever. I really love getting your comments and making new bloggie buddies!

If you HAVE introduced yourself but have a no-reply return email, that means I can't respond to your comments! Please fix that by following these instructions. I was in the same boat and got it corrected, easy-peasy!

Muchas gracias! And since today is my 'Friday,' Happy Weekend!

What I'm Loving Wednesday

Since it's so fun, here's what I'm loving today:

1. Paying off more debt- as of this morning, we're now down to two. We now have one "bad debt" left and student loans, which are considered "good debt." We say they both stink and have to go. We're hoping to pay off the bad one before our 10 year wedding anniversary at the end of May. Then another year to hit our student loans, and then we can finally save for a HOUSE!

2. I'm now to level 2 of Jillian's 30 day shred. And girl is CRAY-CRAY! That girl is crazy and nuts and insane and evil and wonderful all at once.

3. I got billed for BirchBox today! Which sounds funny until you realize that means my second box will be arriving next week! Yippee! I can't wait to see what February holds!

4. This is my newest fave product. Believe it or not, I read in People magazine that Taylor Swift uses it and swears by it. Since I've been looking for what seems like forever for a new night cream, I thought I'd try it (Got mine at Target). This is phenomenally amazing! It has a light pleasant scent that's not overwhelming (especially important since it's slathered all over my nose).

Every winter I have crazy dry skin and tell Hubby that I wish I could take a bath in lotion. I don't really mean it (all that grease!) but the idea sounds Heavenly. Putting this on my face (and neck) feels a lot like bathing my skin in lotion. So wonderful! This stuff is not at all greasy, though while it dries, your face does feel slightly sticky. The only bummer is that I put it on after I've taken out my contacts and washed my face each night, which means I have to wait for it to dry before I put on my glasses. Seriously, this is totally worth the money to have Taylor's baby soft skin. Fur reals, yo. And yes, I just said that.

5. Bloggie friends. I've not met any of them in person (the ones that live so stinkin' blinkin' far away), and yet they're so very dear to me and now such a natural, lovely, bright spot to each day. I thank God for each of you.

I think that's about it for me today. What're you digging on today?
