So the other day, we watched the season finale of 19 Kids & Counting, on TLC. For those of you who don't know, the show's about a very strong Christian family who doesn't use birth control (thus, the 19! kids they have).
We've not been watching the last few episodes because the mom, Michelle, miscarried their 20th baby and it's been really sad to watch their excitement over the baby (before they discovered the miscarriage). The season finale was about the miscarriage and how they grieved and dealt with it.
All I'm going to say, whether you agree or disagree with their beliefs, is that the episode and family were treated with such huge respect and dignity, and was the most honest, real, and compelling thing I've probably ever seen on TV. Their emotions were shown from excitement to 'deep sorrow', to quote Michelle.
Having never been through that, I could only imagine the pain and agony the family was experiencing, but I say all this to explain that God was so glorified through that episode that I'm still thinking about it.
As they all kept repeating throughout, "The Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord." God knows all and He knew this would happen to that family. Yet through it all they give glory to the Lord and grieve the loss of this life they never knew but loved so much.
It was pretty powerful, if you can catch it as a rerun or online or something. Isn't it amazing what God uses to get people's attention and what's used to give Him glory? A TV show. Crazy amazing to me.
