Happy 30!

Today my baby brother is 30! Happy birthday, Gabriel! I know for sure that you are one of the coolest people I know! I also know that the 30s so far are my favorite decade and I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy them just as much as I am!

I love how the Lord has matured you and blessed you over the years. I thank you for your service to our country, for your passion and compassion for others, for the love of football that you gave to me in high school, just to name a few things...

I love lots about you, but I also just love YOU. Happy happy special day!

This week has been a much calmer week than the last couple, for which I'm truly grateful! Dad's been visiting with us while raising support (He and Mom are missionaries with GAiN, the humanitarian arm of Campus Crusade For Christ). We love having him/them here- it's always a good time and they're easy houseguests-- A great combo!

Here's our InstaLife this past week... mostly enjoying the coming of Fall with punkins galore, Fall smells, and coffee (always)...

My 5k is tomorrow; I can't wait to fill you in on how it goes! With the cooler weather this week I'm hoping to do really well!

Brinner of Champions!
Homemade Punkin Bread by my amazing friend, Jan!

The Mustache Me app for the iPhone is free and hilarious!
I'm sure by now you realize how obsessed with Scentsy I am..

Can You Hear Me Now?

For the last three weeks, our senior pastor, Chuck, has been laying out the vision for our church for the next ten years. He's been calling it the "Decade Of Destiny" and his intention is that he feels the Lord is calling the PEOPLE to be more fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ (Not just the church as a whole, but the people within the church).

The sermon this past Sunday was especially impactful, so I thought I'd share it here. It's roughly 45 minutes long, but VERY good. I felt led to share this particular sermon because the subject is on how to know if you're hearing God and how to know what His will for your life is. I've had quite a few conversations with folks recently about this very thing, which is why I think this might be helpful. I'm still thinking on it as is CC, but what we've already talked together about has been pretty great.

One of the things in particular that I liked about what Chuck had to say is how to know that God spoke to you. I'm often asked, "well, how do you KNOW that God spoke to you? Did you hear Him SAY it or what?" Usually I answer that I just felt peace about a specific decision or that it was very clear the door was closed in a certain direction. But don't we all want to know EXACTLY what I mean when I say that? It's pretty difficult to explain to someone, I think anyway, how I know beyond a doubt that God told me something, and yet, I still know He guided me to a particular path.

I'd love to hear your thoughts if you do watch the sermon... And for those of you curious and wanting more info about our church, here you go.

Muggy Goodness!

Kim celebrated her blogiversary last month by holding her second annual Mug Swap! Last year I participated and had a blast, so of course I had to do it again! A special bonus this year is that I offered to help Kim out if necessary and boy I'm glad I did! She had over 200 swappers this year and it was fun to see her behind-the-scenes work and help however I could. I was allowed to choose my swappers but I decided not to because I wanted it to be a surprise, just like everyone else.

I got Keri as the person I was sending to, and I had a lot of fun "blog-stalking" her to see what she likes and how awesome her taste is. I decided to get her a pretty and sophisticated-looking mug since that's what I thought of her after reading her blog (Seriously, go look at her house photos- her home is amazing!).

Unfortunately, the mug pics on my phone aren't available so I can't share the picture of what her mug looked like- I know I'm sorry! But lucky for me, Keri posted her insta-photo of the mug on her blog, so here you go if you really want to see it (I was more impressed and in love with her new jacket honestly, and how awesome to find another Fall-lover out there!).

I wanted to send her some fun little things along with her mug but couldn't find anything to go with such a fancy pretty mug. Sorry, Keri! Next year, I'll do better, I promise!

In the meantime, I was helping Kim with the swapping assignments, trying REALLY hard not to find out who had me. It was not easy let me tell you, especially once I cracked Kim's ultra-hard-to-crack code! Fortunately for me, my mug arrived just in the nick of time!

So I've been following Julie for a while now and I think she's just the coolest. All these California friends in my blog world just seem super cool and they get to wear flip-flops year-round. (Can you say jealous?! Of course, occasionally we get snow, so I guess it's okay.) The real bummer is how far away they are so I've never met any of them in person. One day...

Anyway, Julie's amazing and we're Insta-friends too. She has five hundred gazillion followers reading her blog and somehow she knows little ol' me (probably because I comment on everything so I'm sorry, Julie, if you ever feel somewhat stalked harassed cared for!). Boy was I completely freaking out that she had my name for the mug swap! Eek! My poor hubby can testify to the fact that I was doing the happy dance and completely lost it (yep, I'm a big dork!) when my mug from JULIE came in the mail! Just look at the goodness she sent me! It's okay for you to be a little jealous- I was when she posted the fabric on Instagram and I was dying for that fabric to be coming my way!

That GIANT mug? Yep, it will hold TWO Tassimos' worth of coffee. Just what this coffee-addict girl needs. It will also hold tea with gobs of sugar in it. Yesssss... (Right now it's holding a bouquet of flowers which looks pretty amazing, I must say- seriously, what is it with me and not getting enough pictures?! I'll do better, I promise.)

Julie also sent a bag of Starbucks coffee (which we ALL know I love and can't get enough of), along with a very sweet card in her beautiful handwriting... and the piece de resistance (sorry, I don't speak French)...

Swappy happiness!

A mug rug and a matching coffee sleeve in SUCH adorable fabrics! Fabric by the way, that Julie has been not wanting to part with, and I must say I wouldn't blame her. But she did! For me! How wonderful and thoughtful and sacrificial was that?! I was pretty honored, let me tell you.

I still find it hard to believe I have met such awesome ladies and now friends though Kim's swap. It's only happened twice and I've made five new friends just from that! First of all, Kim, who I adore and she's so funny! Then last year's swap introduced me to Hannah and Carrie who I just love, and now Julie and Keri, who are just as amazing! I'm already looking forward to next year and I must say if you missed out this time around, join us next year for more swappy goodness!

Big Thank-Yous to Kim for hosting such fun times and for giving me two cool chicas! Linking up over at Kim's for the Muggy Party!

The Daily Dirt

This morning when I checked Instagram, that #WIDN was floating around again and I got tagged in it this time! For those of you who may not know, WIDN stands for "What I'm Doing Now" as in, take a picture of that exact moment you saw you were tagged- give a glimpse into your everyday life.

Waiting for black gold this morning... from Mr. Dreadlocks

It made me think how cool it is that all these far-away friends are interested in the daily snapshot of my life. So I thought for your benefit, far-away friends, I'd give you more.

1. I wear a t-shirt and jeans just about every single day. When I say every single day, I mean every. single. day. I like to be comfy. I will also wear my flip-flops as far through Fall as I can, until my toes get cold and turn to toe-sicles.

2. I go to Starbucks a lot. My sweet husband totally enables me with this addiction. I love him more for it.

3. This was my fortune yesterday at lunch. Sounds about right...

4. I read a lot. I go in phases where I read a lot, then just stick with my magazines, and then back and forth. Either way, I read a lot. (and apparently I read fast too).

5. My Fall Decorations are already out. Yep, CC and I put them out September 4th. And that was late to me, so yeah, I'm one of THOSE Fall people. And I feel no shame. ;-)

Yep, and this is just a glimpse... At one point I counted 9 pumpkins just on this counter... AFTER we'd decorated the rest of the house... I *might* have a problem

Let's see, what else?

6. My work-week is Sunday- Thursday, so I am usually pretty stoked by the time Thursday comes around. Most Fridays I'm either home doing chores that I didn't get to throughout the week (dreaded laundry), or I'm out running errands or seeing this chica.

7.  My daily morning routine usually involves me taking the dog out first thing before I get ready for the day. I make a LOVELY picture walking through the neighborhood in my jammie pants and crazy hair.

8. I don't eat beef anymore and I don't really like pork or turkey much, so I pretty much live on chicken, if I'm eating meat.

9. I work in the Worship Arts Ministry Department at our church, Crossroads Fellowship. I've been attending this church since I was 13. I met my husband (a PK) in the high school youth group, I got married at this church, and I am here at least five days a week. It's my second home.

10. I love Love LOVE love love LOVE mail! All kinds, even catalogs. I love paperwork too, especially when I'm having a good handwriting day. One year, I even paid bills on my birthday because I enjoy it so much. I know, I'm weird.

11.  One of my faves is that Hubby is the cook, and I bake. This means usually he will slave away for the Man all day then come home and whip up these amazing dinners. He also cleans too. Oh yes, I know, he's a keeper. And no, you can't borrow him. ;-)

I hope that gives you a bit more of me. What about you? Or, what else do you want to know about?

Laboring on Labor Day

Today is a rather lazy day around here. We've been running like crazy for a few weeks now and this is our last chance to rest before the crazy starts up again.

Of course I'm doing something not completely restful, but rather productive. I really thought I'd finish this quilt on our vacation in June, but two months later, here it still sits collecting dust on the kitchen table. CC's dad is coming Thursday for a visit/support-raising trip, and I've set a goal to have the quilt done by the time he comes. (What was I thinking?!)

So here I sit, grumbling and complaining at my sewing machine... The reality is I'll be grateful once it's completed, and so proud of myself!

What're you doing today? Are you relaxing or being productive?
