So This Happened.

So this happened last Thursday right before we were supposed to go out of town on Friday. I also had a phone date with this awesome gal and didn't want to cancel.

Poor Meredith!
Now you need to understand- I drop my phone all the time. ALL the time. I hate OtterBoxes- they're clunky and ugly and ginormous, so I don't have one. In all the years I've had a cell phone, especially the iPhone, I've never actually broken one. Dropped it in a pile of ketchup? Yes. Accidentally had one commit suicide in a dumpster while helping Habitat? Absolutely. Dropped it five gagillion times on cement and pavement? Yep. Broken a phone during said droppage? Never.

Of course I'm not upgrade-eligible right now either so a new iPhone 5 would've cost me about $650,000. Um no, what else ya got Mr. Eric at AT&T? He recommended we go to Pro-Wireless at the mall and see if they would replace the screen for cheaper. (He also recommended phone insurance, but pfft. I don't need that mess.)

We quickly headed over there since they closed at 9pm and it was after 8 (Why does the entire city shut down at 9pm?! Just sayin'.).

Well the awesome news is they replaced the screen for just about a hundred bucks in under an hour! Woohoo! The only true sad moment came when my cute cheap chevron case bit the dust. Back to the boring one I was using before.

Recovery mode
My phone was in 'recovery' all weekend, with a screen protector film and two rubber bands interfering with my (not so) nimble fingers, but by Sunday morning when I was allowed to introduce my phone back into normal phone society, it was all better! I was still able to have my phone date with the gorgeous gal featured in these photos, thanks to the bizarre but neat new earbuds.

Yay! Disaster averted.

Nantahala Getaway

With Hubby's stressful new job and all we've dealt with the past couple months, he thought it'd be a brilliant idea to get away. I have to say, that man is so smart. With the Groupon we found, we went away to the mountains near Nantahala last weekend for not a lot of money (always a good thing!).

We were really hoping for a porch we could enjoy and sit on with mountain views. Well the good news is we ended up getting our own private 'treehouse cottage'- the bad news is the porch faced the gravel road, there was a forest-of-trees view and no mountain views, and there was no wi-fi except at the main lodge building. We were a little sad about that at first, but in the end it turned out to be pretty wonderful to unplug for a couple days.

The funniest part of the weekend was when we were about half an hour away from the resort. We were talking about chores and things we don't like to do and I mentioned to CC that he doesn't like to take out the trash. All of a sudden he smacks the steering wheel and says 'Guess what we forgot to do before we left?' We'd forgotten to take out the trash! Five hours on a road trip to the mountains and we finally remember the trash in the trunk of the car. CC was determined to find some place legal to dump it so nobody would think we were stashing a dead body somewhere... we drove for about twenty minutes and found a campground and were able to dump it. We were doubled over laughing about that!

Not a dead body, I promise!

We read books, we played A LOT of foosball (there was a table in our cottage), we went hiking and enjoyed some waterfalls (have fun saying Juney Whank!), and I loved my mountain mochas! It was a breath of fresh air (quite literally) to get away with just the two of us for the weekend. We also went on the Blue Ridge Parkway, which we love to do. Last time we did that was YEARS ago and our views were pretty non-existent due to the massive fog. This go-round we had amazing views!

We really want to go back and go tubing and whitewater rafting. We ran out of time to do that fun stuff, but are looking forward to going back!
Juney Whank is fun to say... and gorgeous!

Giant mountain mochas are my new fave

Since The People Have Spoken

Since everyone's wondering now that we're smack in the middle of week three, here's the update on Hubby's job sitch.

Cutest man I ever did see
Two and a half weeks in (as in, two days ago), he got asked to lead a team. Of course he said yes (He IS the newbie after all!) so now he's managing again. Hopefully this time will be temporary and will end in six weeks or so, but we'll see.

The worst part to me is that he's working with 'off-shore' (aka not in 'Merica) folks which means the time zones are all over the place. Which means that in addition to his really late nights and long days, now he's having to be up and awake and ready to work at SIX AM. Yes, 6. As in, before the sun comes up.

And the man does not drink coffee, people.

How does he do it?!

In addition to this, his high-maintenance wife wakes up if he breathes differently, which means once he's up, so am I. I'm an incredibly light sleeper, which is very very sad. It'd be good if we were being robbed or something in the middle of the night because then I could bust them or something, but usually it's just sad. Also the fact that once I'm awake, I can't ever go back to sleep, so the poor man is just having a time of it.

I will say even though we're both really tired today, it was kind of secretly lovely this morning to have a couple hours to relax and get things done around the house before heading off to work. I'm not sure he'd say the same thing, but it was pleasant.

And now it's nap-time...zzzzz.... (Just kidding, sort of.)

At least he's still having FUN, right?! Right!

Muggy Goodness: The 2013 Version!

This year's annual mug swap yielded TWO muggy buddies to send happiness to! It was a ton of fun, especially because I had one tea-lover and one coffee-lover.

I can't wait to know if they like their mugs or not! I'm still waiting on mine too; I'm REALLY excited to find out who had me! I like making new friends this way.

Follow #mugswap2013 on social media for all the muggy goodness if you're interested!

Oh, Life.

Life's still crazy and I for the life of me can't figure out why this surprises me each week, but it still does. I'll get over it one day, I suppose.

This weekend we procrastinated as much as possible. We've been re-watching all the Friends episodes on DVD and we pretty much spent the weekend doing that and eating. So yeah, our weekend was awesome.

I did take some time out to shop for not one, but TWO muggy buddies! I'm almost done and ready to ship (which is good since the deadline is this weekend). I have to find packing material so nothing breaks and then it's off to the good ol' USPS! Woohoo! I haven't gotten mine yet either, so I figure there's still time.

The Hubs and I are running away this weekend to the mountains and I'm SO VERY excited! It feels like we're those fancy travellin' people being gone at least once a month. Okay, so just the past two or so months, but after years of not having weekends free, it's rather thrilling to throw caution to the wind and run away when we can for a couple days. I can't wait!

What's going on with you?

Ten on Ten!

I finally remembered to do a Ten on Ten post! Woohoo! I think I've only successfully accomplished this one other time ever. Basically, on the tenth day of each month, you take ten pictures throughout the day, which gives a sneaky peek into your life. And then you link up here.

This ten on ten post finally happened since it was my birthday! Birthdays are a BIG deal to me and I celebrate all month long (or as much as CC lets me!).

Happy faces! (Or at least one happy face)
My phone was VERY excited!
Starting the day off right

Macarons! I seriously thought about it, but I refrained from buying it.

The a/c was broken at the store so I pretended to be a model with the fan blowing my hair all over. Not so much.
Sharing jumper cables in the mall parking lot
Hubby bought me a REALLY nice bag for my present! He's good.

Time for dinner with friends!

Dessert #1! (and a peace sign bomb)

Dessert #2!

Overall it was a fantastic special day! It was a low-key birthday, but a very good and fun birthday.

Alright, I've been hinting about this for a while now and I'm finally starting/continuing my (drumroll please)...

5. Disney World!
6. Successfully gift macarons to someone
7. Successfully gift a handmade quilt to someone (that I've made)
8. Hit my first goal weight (my high school weight)
9. Learn to hike
10. Break my daily Starbucks addiction

I'll have to keep thinking on it, but for now this is what I have. I have no end goal date for any of these, but I'll have to get crackin' won't I? Any thoughts about my list?

Fun!

I keep nagging stalking checking in with CC every chance I get occasionally to see how he's feeling about his new job. People are asking, you know. I have to have an answer ready. This morning (or last night?) he said he's having fun. 'FUN.' He hasn't used that word to describe his job in a LONG time. I thought that was very cool and very interesting. So I harassed asked him again this afternoon if he's still having fun and he said yes. Yay!

In other fun news, I FINALLY tested a Pinterest pin! Woohoo! I know, I've been pinning all the things but being a huge slacker when it's come to actually doing anything (except macarons, which I'm totally counting as PinterTesting. Because here's proof!).

I present to you Killer Artichoke Bread! (Original site here)

Yummy!
Basically, it's easy, amazing, and involves LOTS of artichokes which we adore. It even has sour cream as part of it which CC hates but totally loved when he tried it. I call that a win! Also, ciabatta. I love me some ciabatta. In fact, it made me miss bread very much. For the last year we've been eating that Nature's Own 40-calorie-a-slice bread, which has been just fine. Until I busted out the ciabatta this past weekend for this reci-pin. Happy sigh.

Linking up with Jessica for this month's PinterTest Kitchen...

First Day Recap

Since so many of you have been asking me, here's the recap of yesterday. You are too sweet and we greatly appreciate all the prayers and support and encouragement we've both been receiving from y'all.

Hubby's first day at his new job went very well. They were ready for him and even expecting him (trust me, we've heard horror stories). He's been in training, he's sharing an office and got his laptop set up, and he even took his sodas and snacks to work today. They brought in lunch yesterday so he got to hang out with his work buddies (since he knows several folks who are working there too). It's a very small group of people right now, which makes it feel like a start-up even though it's not one. It sounds like a really great atmosphere!

The only bummer was that he put in a full ten hours and didn't get home until after 7pm! That kinda stunk because then we had to eat dinner and run to Target, so there wasn't much of a chance to talk and rest last night with each other.

The good news is that Laura delivered Pistacia Vera macarons straight from Ohio and it was such a wonderful treat to celebrate the new job last night! Muchas, muchas gracias, Laura!

Praying the good vibes continue and he really enjoys this new adventure!

Big Day.

Today is a big day in our house. We've had lots going on and a big thing we've been dealing with is change. I hate change, generally. Well, I should say that I don't adjust well to change. It takes me a while and the more warning I can have that something's changing, the better.

Today's a big day because the Hubby begins his NEW JOB today! Please be praying for a fantastic day for him!

CC's been at the same company for exactly the past eight years, which is a long time especially for the field he's in. He wasn't looking to leave, but God just essentially dropped this amazingly wonderful offer in his lap, and we went for it. Fortunately for him, a lot of his work buddies have also just moved over to this place as well, so he should be seeing many friendly faces today.

I cannot wait to hear how this first day goes, and pray for many good days to come.

To my CC-

I am SO proud of you. I respect the snot out of you. You're an amazing provider in every way.

I love you always.
-Your Susie

Foto Friday.

Because let's face it- you just want pictures! A true sneaky peek into daily life through photos is kinda the best. Other than meeting in person, which would be incredibly awesome. If you're ever near me, let me know. I'd love to meet up with you! Anyway, enjoy!

I heart coffee. Like for real.
Surprise happy mail from this lovely girl who I'm still shocked knows who I am!
More research.
Sweet puppy eyes. I'm a sucker.
Don't worry, I got chocolate peanut butter cup so I'm restocked.
New lamp! Sneaky puppy trying to sleep with us (she's not allowed).
Truly, prayers have been answered, people. Yes, it's fake chemical water. No, I do not care.

Doozy.

It's been a doozy of a week. Not in a bad way, but very very busy. Appointments, things to do, people to see, work to finish, and on and on. I'm finally feeling more myself and am very much looking forward to a fun weekend with CC.

In the meantime, today is a very special day. Today is the day we can begin celebrating the only true holiday in August. I mean, it's on my calendar. I assume it's on yours since you're so smart. Kim's third annual mug swap is upon us and sign-ups begin TODAY!

Mug Swap!

I'm already signed up. Because come on! She threatened to close sign-ups early if it gets too out of control. I refuse to be left out of the most awesome goodness celebrating mugs and coffee and tea ever.

You better get over there and get on the list! The first year she had about 30 folks do it. Last year- over 240! For real, she doesn't play around.

Join in on the fun! I can't wait to see who my new friends will be this year! If you post on social media, be sure to use #mugswap2013 so we can all celebrate this holiday together. Fun times!
